The museum is an innovative event-driven and engaging place serving a larger, more-diverse public with great stories, while staying afloat financially. It is about participation, it is crowdsourced and crowdfunded, is making use of social media, apps and new technology in a meaningful way. It has snackable content, is sustainable, has a flexible gallery space and a good sense of hostmanship. It it is a rich learning environment and a great place to be.
Great examples of this new trend are the new MAS museum in Antwerp, Belgium but also projects like ArtTube, the online video channel by Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the iPad performance by the artist Kamagurka in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and our small crowdsourced exhibition about Hipstamatic retro pictures with your iPhone app in Kunsthal Rotterdam.
[Our contribution in DDW- Trendbook '11 in the section culture & entertainment; in all honesty it is so cool to see your text in good old print :-)]
